What we do

Mountains, forests
rivers
without barriers

The outdoors is not a privilege. It is a right. We believe every person - whatever their level of disability - deserves to feel the wind on their face, the scent of the forest or the sound of a river. Through Adaptive Adventures, we bring people with disabilities together through shared outdoor experiences. Because an active life is not only for some.

Making nature accessible

We create outdoor activities adapted to different levels of disability - from mild to severe.

Fighting isolation

Movement in nature and a community of like-minded people can be powerful medicine for depression and anxiety.

Shared experiences

We run activities where disability is not the obstacle - what matters is being outside together.

Our
story

In 2018, the life of one of our founders changed in a split second. A fall from a bike, an injured cervical vertebra - and paralysis from the neck down. No movement, no sensation, no fine motor control.

What came next is familiar to thousands of people with a similar story: endless worries, exhaustion, and little strength left for the most important thing in life - actually living it.

Adaptive Adventures grew out of that experience. Not as a response to sympathy, but as a challenge - to prove that life after disability can still be full, active and meaningful.

“When I wanted to return to nature after my accident, I realised how hard it was. I refused to accept that. I started looking for a way - and today I try to help others find one too.”

Juraj Jakubáč

“My role is to help Juraj keep everything running. Admin, the website, day-to-day operations - that is where I feel at home. And when it works, I am glad to be part of it.”

Ľubica Jakubáčová

“I have been active in sport since childhood. For me, adventure means breaking through the limits that life has put in my way.”

Daniela Svateková

“I had become used to so many things being out of reach. But with you, I forgot I had any limitations at all. That feeling of freedom stayed with me long after I got home.”

Marek Gergély

“Paddling with Adaptive Adventures really is for everyone - a great atmosphere, support and the pure joy of movement. Thank you for doing this.”

Devín for Everyone is an inclusive festival at Devín Castle, open to absolutely everyone - regardless of age, gender or disability. The cultural and sports programme brings disabled and non-disabled people together in one shared experience: cycling, talks with interesting people, workshops and good music. The organiser provides transport for bikes and wheelchairs, as well as alternative transport such as rickshaws and cargo bikes. Entry is free, but you need to register your ticket in advance - it will arrive by email. The festival is organised by Be:Cycle and takes place for the third time this year.

Past events

Parapádlo is a specially adapted craft that allows people with different types of disabilities to paddle. The equipment and paddles are adapted so movement on the water is safe and comfortable.

Paddling Without Barriers on the Rusovecko-Jarovecké river branch at the Otvorená lodenica boathouse. This beautiful spot on a branch of the Danube, on the edge of Petržalka, offers calm, safe paddling in a natural setting. The event was for people with disabilities, their families and friends, and anyone who simply wanted to come and paddle.

We took part in Run Bekim Run, held on June 20 in Pezinok. The event offered 5 km and 10 km races, including a disability category. Proceeds from registrations support our activities for people with disabilities. Thank you to everyone who came.

We had to cancel the event - a level 3 high-temperature warning was in force that day, and we did not want to put the health of participants or volunteers at risk. Thank you for your understanding. We look forward to seeing you at our next events.

This year, we were also part of the Pohoda festival. At the NGO stand, we presented our activities and everything we do through Adaptive Adventures. Thank you to everyone who stopped by. Venue: Trenčín Airport.

We took part in the Open Day at VK Dunajčík water sports club. Visitors could try rafting with experienced instructors, test kayaks, tour the century-old boathouse, join creative workshops in the eco corner and play beach games. All activities were free. Thank you for the invitation and the great atmosphere.
